BPA Free Epoxy
BPA, or Bisphenol A, is an industrial chemical used to make epoxy resins and plastics. Research has shown that exposure to BPA can have effects on brain, behavior and prostate gland of fetuses, infants and children. BPA is a known endocrine disruptor, with problems with brain and reproductive development, early puberty and a rise in breast and prostate cancer.
HIGH PERFORMANCE COATINGS
Current alternative to BPA based epoxies do not possess the mechanical properties required for high performance coatings. Properties such as glass transition temperature and water uptake ratio are critical determinants of long term mechanical properties of epoxy coatings. Our coatings have similar mechanical performance as BPA based epoxies.
In contrast to BPA, which is a petrochemical, our epoxy resin and coatings are derived from isosorbide, a biobased molecule obtained by dehydration of sugar. Current large scale manufacturing plants already exist to convert sugar molecule to isosorbide.
Our first target market is high performance floor coating to prevent user and occupational exposure. Other applications include food and beverage can coatings and sport/leisure equipments such as fishing rods and skateboards.
